Rules of Engagement

Surfers will be judged based on the following criteria and will be by majority vote of fellow surfers and beach spectators/judges. There will be no surfing heats, only a scheduled surf time of two hours in which surfers attempt to score the highest rating using the system below. The highest possible score any surfer can achieve is a 50.

1. Biggest drop - this is the largest landed wave drop of the day and when voted on by viewers can at least be reasonably referred to as an "air-mail." Will be voted on a scale of 1-10.

2. Biggest wipeout - in favor of beginning surfers, this scoring will value the wreck of the day. Decent bleeding in this category guarantees at least a score of 8. Will be voted on a scale of 1-10.

3. Best ride - this is scored on for originality, style, length of riding, and control. Disqualification will be given to surfers dropping in on, hitting or nearly hitting, or otherwise terrorizing other competitors or nearby leisure surfers. Will be voted on a scale of 1-10.

4. Wave bow - in honor of Thanksgiving and the tradition of surfing, the surfer to most closely complete the ancient Hawaiian practice of turning and bowing to the wave in an act of thanks will win this category. Will be voted on a scale of 1-10.

5. Frederick's factor - Kevin Frederick will decide which surfer has that special knack he is looking for which he believes sets apart great surfers. No bribing or fraternizing with Kevin before the competition will be allowed. Will be voted on a scale of 1-10.
